What's In It For Me

The Internal Auditor plays a significant role in confirming the status of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) system implementation within an organization and in identifying areas for improvement to enhance the effectiveness of the food safety management system.


The Certified Internal Auditor in HACCP certification is designed to independently assess and confirm a candidate’s knowledge, competence, and professional judgment in performing internal audits of a HACCP system in accordance with Codex Alimentarius HACCP principles and relevant food safety regulatory and industry requirements. The assessment is conducted through examination.


Through the examination, candidates are assessed on their ability to:

  • Interpret and apply HACCP principles and requirements
  • Apply audit principles and techniques
  • Evaluate HACCP system implementation using risk-based and preventive approaches
  • Identify nonconformities and opportunities for improvement



Candidates who successfully meet the eligibility requirements and pass the examination will be awarded the Certified Internal Auditor in HACCP.

Mode of Assessment

Type of assessment: Examination (1 paper)

·    Examination Duration: 2 hrs 30 min

·    Distribution of questions based on the following Body of Knowledge (BoK):

i- Audit concept

ii- MS 1480 Requirements

iii- Audit Planning and Execution

iv- Audit Reporting and Follow-up



Course Duration

Exam duration: 2.5 hours 


Pre-requisites

Prerequisite Requirements


To qualify for the SIRIM Certified Internal Auditor in Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (CIA-HACCP) scheme, candidates shall fulfill the following prerequisite requirements:


1. Education

Candidates shall have completed:

  • Secondary education (e.g. SPM), or
  • Tertiary education (e.g. diploma, degree, or higher) in any field.



2. Training

Candidates shall have successfully completed a HACCP (MS 1480) Requirements and Internal Auditing course, or an equivalent course.

Note: The training course shall be based on the latest revision of the standard.


3. Work Experience

Candidates shall have relevant work experience in any industry, based on their education level, as follows:

  • Secondary education level: Minimum 3 years of work experience, or
  • Tertiary education level: Minimum 1 year of work experience.
